Who is Amna Al Haddad?

I am a 20 year old Emirati female living in Dubai. My goal as a journalist and a student of media is to make as much difference in my country as I can as an individual. I greatly enjoy touching upon different topics and writing about them, either on a personal level or a professional one.

What are you currently doing?

Currently I am a still a student at the American University of Sharjah and studying Mass Communication, Journalism. I am graduating really soon – in February, 2011 meaning I am up and ready to start a new course in my life. Between now and the time I graduate, I will be hopefully continuing work and getting part-time jobs to keep myself even busier and gain additional knowledge as opposed to textbook knowledge.

Things you like to write about?

Well, I like to write about mainly on health and fitness topics, because I feel greatly about the subject as majority of Emiratis suffer from obesity and diabetes. I think if the nation read articles from someone who understands their problems, they may be more likely to take the advice and listen. Further, I like to write about social issues; such as affect of technology on everyday communication, about mental illnesses, social problems in the Emirates, among other things as well.

Where have you worked before and why did you work in those places?

I have about 3 years of worth of work experience and held different positions in various sectors in Dubai. I worked in the media industry, educational organizations, sales jobs and oil and gas companies. Why so different than what you’re studying, you ask? Well, to have had myself exposed to different jobs, people, and tasks helped me shape up my work ethic, personality, skill-set, and understanding of the world better. It’s simple as that.

Random question, what kind of exercises do you do?

Haha. Every time I get this question I laugh before I answer. Well, majority of females in the Arab world would opt for cardio as their means to fat loss. I don’t. Actually, I enjoy heavy weight lifting – yes, I got ‘em muscles beneath those long sleeves – because its long-term benefits are more vital for a strong and healthy body in the future. Bottom line: more muscles = less fat.

Do you have any last words?

Last words – wow, that sounds funny when you say it that way. Actually I don’t have any last words because words will keep on coming and flowing on daily basis and giving last words seems like a finality, which at the moment I wouldn’t like to happen – I am just 20! I definitely got a lot more words to offer.
